Joel Sutton Rhythm & Blues Revue - Vol 1
Joel Sutton is a drummer with over 30 years of experience in the music business. Having worked with many leading Australian acts across a wide variety of genres, blues and roots music still remains his first love.
He was a band member of The Bondi Cigars, The Mal Eastick Band and the legendary Johno’s Blues Band. As a freelance drummer Joel has worked with The Hippo’s, The Foreday Riders, Vika and Linda, James Reyne, Chris Wilson, Ali Penney And The Money Makers and too many more to list. Joel has toured extensively, and appeared on television with Chuck Berry’s right hand man and American piano great, Johnnie Johnson. With the transition from freelance drummer to music production, Joel wanted to share his love of rhythm and blues music by assembling some of Australia’s finest roots musicians on one album. |

"This album has been a privilege to produce, both in working with the best in the industry, as well as reuniting with old friends and discovering new ones. I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we've all enjoyed making it."

Praise for joel sutton rhythm & blues revue - vol 1
You might incorrectly think that Joel Sutton pulled this project together as a response to the recent COVID-19 crisis, but his idea of remotely recording and then tracking this album predates any pandemic!
Joel, who plays drums on each of the tracks, brings together a selection of 25 Australian musicians for this 11-track release, recorded in 15 various studio spaces from every state of this country as well as Mitch Grainger’s L.A. studios. It includes some well-known names as well as lesser known, regional musicians…hopefully exposing all to a wider audience.
Matching each of the artists and piecing together every one of the well-chosen tracks takes a skillful ear and vast technical skill, Joel and his various assistants have this in spades, going by his excellent release.
Volume 1? Already up for the volume 2!
- Anthony Moulay (presenter of “Blues from The Bay” BayFM 99.9, Byron Bay, and Coordinator of the “Australian Blues & Roots Airplay Charts”)

“It’s all about connections. Albert Collins was my first massive influence on guitar and it was great connecting with all the musicians on this track - even if it was virtual.”

"Joel and I played together in Sydney in the early 2000's with John Power and others. We've been Hippos - although at different times - and shared other musical associates.
I'd been playing 'Ain't Nobody Here But Me' for a while, hearing it first on a great Chicago blues compilation 'Rare Gems' by the wonderful pianist Little Brother Montgomery. It was a treat to play this with Joel and Grant Cummerford on a sweaty February afternoon. They're a powerful rhythm section and the addition of Simon Chapman on piano allowed the song to roll as well as rock."

"Great to be a part of a modern blues project. Being able to record with muse's situated anywhere, opens the world up."
